"Hey, Mike! Didn't you just review a gray 2025 Honda Civic back in October?
Well, yes, I did---but that was the 2025 Honda Civic Sport Touring Hybrid Sedan.
This is the 2025 Honda Civic Hatchback Hybrid Sport Touring.
Unlike in the old cigarette ads, it's not what's up front that counts here.
Like the sedan from a few weeks ago, this is the Honda Civic Hybrid, with the same 200 horsepower, 232 pound-feet of torque and 6.2 second 0-60 time (the most powerful Civic ever that isn't a Civic Type R).
Despite what seems like a more aerodynamic shape, the hatchback actually loses a bit in fuel economy to the sedan. The EPA estimate for the hatchback is 50 city/48 highway---the sedan is 50/47. Still, those are impressive numbers, especially considering the performance.
No, the big news with the hatchback Civic Hybrid is the big jump in cargo capacity. The sedan trunk holds 14.8 cubic feet, which is very good for a compact sedan. But the hatchback delivers 24.5 cubic feet...a number that goes up (though Honda hasn't given an exact figure) when the rear seats fold down.
And all that room in the wayback doesn't come at the expense of the cabin---rear seat legroom is the same 37.4 inches as in the sedan.
The base price of the 2025 Honda Civic Hatchback Hybrid Sport Touring (the top-of-the-line model) is $32,950. Standard features at that price include selectable drive modes, a comprehensive suite of active safety features, leather-trimmed seats, steering wheel and shift knob, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless device charging, a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system, power adjustable (eight-way driver, four-way front passenger) heated seats, auto-dimming rearview mirror, floor mats, cargo area cover, a moonroof, 18-inch wheels and rain-sensing wipers.
And...that's it. Everything standard, apart from the $455 Urban Gray Pearl paint. With $1,095 destination and handling, the bottom line on the window sticker reads $33,860.
Everything the Honda Civic Hybrid Sedan has, plus a lot more versatility when it comes to cargo, for $1,200 extra? Don't be surprised if this becomes the best-seller in the Civic line very quickly.
