Baby Got Back: The 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback GT-Line Turbo

When the Kia K4 debuted, I was less than kind about its styling---especially the back third of the car.

My take, in February, 2025:

"...the 2025 Kia K4 looks like they had two styling teams for it---one for the front, and one for the rear...Beyond the schizophrenic front and rear, the high beltline and the way the front and rear lights do a dramatic plunge make the car look very bottom-heavy."

And I stand by that. The good news is that now, I can stand by this:

This is the K4 Hatchback, in GT-Line Turbo trim, and while styling is subjective and there will undoubtedly be some who don't like this, I do, and I'm the guy with his own car review site.

They didn't just make a hole and a new door to fit it---they took 11 inches off the back end of the vehicle.

No, they couldn't change the high beltline and the dramatic plunge of the lights, and yes, it still makes the car look bottom-heavy, but I think the tighter dimensions and wagon-like profile transform the K4.

It certainly helps the K4's cargo-carrying capability. The version with a trunk can hold 14.4 cubic feet of stuff---the hatchback 22.2 cubic feet with the rear seat up. Fold those and it's 59.3 cubic feet.

The K4 Hatchback also gets a different roof from the sedan, and the people in both rows one and two get an extra inch of headroom as a result.

The K4 Hatchback can be had in base EX, GT-Line or GT-Line Turbo trim. This is the GT-Line Turbo. The extra $3,000 above the non-turbo GT-Line is worth it for the extra 43 horsepower (they also throw in an upgraded audio system, power sunroof and navigation). Zero to 60 is a respectable 7 seconds flat, and the EPA fuel economy estimate is a solid 26 mpg city/33 mpg highway.

The base price of the 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback GT-Line Turbo is $28,790---$29,985 including destination. That money buys a lengthy list of standard equipment (see the window sticker at the end of this review).

Our test vehicle had a few extra-cost options. The Sparkling Yellow paint ($395), carpeted floor mats ($190) and the GT-Line Turbo Technology Package---an upgrade to the active safety feature suite plus multi-color LED ambient lighting, memory driver's seat and outside mirrors, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel and a smartphone digital key setup ($2,300).

Total as-tested price: $32,870.

In an age where the average car is $50k and economy cars routinely bump up against or cross the 35-grand mark, that's an amazing deal. The K4 Hatchback should be on your short list.
